What is the role?

We are looking for an outstanding Email and Web Developer to take charge of our emails and HTML5 display ads. To inspire and develop engaging, user-centric experiences for our customers. The Developer will have all the knowhow and ambition to push Moonpig into the limelight as an industry leader and trendsetter in personalised advertising and communications.

Reporting to the Head of Design & Brand Experience, you’ll be a key player in the Creative Marketing team. Working collaboratively with the wider Marketing, Commercial and UX teams, you’ll be supporting the company’s ever growing desire to enhance the user's experience across each touch point. This role is focussed on making Moonpig a leading brand in user interaction, discovering new ways to surprise and delight the customer with experiences they’ll love!

Day to day, you’ll be working closely with the designers, taking creative and transforming it into beautifully coded solutions for our core channels using best practice techniques. From building mobile first email newsletters and our CRM email programme to cutting edge HTML5 digital display advertising.

As an integral part of the Creative team, you’ll have a solid understanding of the Moonpig brand characteristics, how it looks, sounds and tonally comes across.

We strive to do things ‘a bit differently’ so standing out in people’s crowded inboxes, pushing innovation, trialling new ideas and formats, is all part of the Developer's responsibility.

What will I be doing?

Lots, but in the main your day will consist of :
  • Collaboratively working with creative, marketing, commercial, product and technical teams to develop user-centric, on brand, attractive and effective communications (email newsletters, HTML5 display ads, web pages.)
  • Delighting customers with engaging email newsletters
  • Developing outstanding HTML5 display ads and other rich media ads
  • Best practise interaction and animation for digital channels
  • Building code based prototypes for user testing
  • Following best practice and optimise design and code for better performance
  • Working closely with the brand, UX and tech teams to develop and maintain the digital brand guidelines and pattern library
  • Managing your time and clearly communicate lead times etc
And more specifically: -
  • Marketing email newsletters for UK, AU and US
  • Automated Email programme for UK, AU and US websites which encompass 30+ individual email templates in the customer journey, from Welcome Emails to Forgotten passwords.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with JavaScript
  • Experience implementing X-sell functionality within trigger / real time emails
  • Coded both Marketing and Real Time emails with transactional data
  • Experience of coding dynamic content in emails
  • Experience of Adobe ESP
  • Stay on top of the latest trends and techniques to ensure Moonpig stays ahead of the game across digital channels
  • Mobile first approach
  • Test emails with Litmus and on device
Working on HTML5 Display Ads including
  • Online display advertising – static or animated
  • Coding standard IAB HTML5 banners and implementation of third party click and meta tags
  • Working within third party specifications (max file, polite load, fps)
  • Coding Rising Star or Rich Media formats
  • Building and adapting HTML5 ads with CSS Animations
  • HTML5 videowand 360 viewer
  • Building responsive banners with HTML5/CSS3/Media Queries
  • Building static banners
Digital Brand Guidelines & Bespoke Web Pages
  • HTML5 / CSS / JavaScript / jQuery
  • Develop a platform and maintain the digital brand guidelines
  • Maintain the digital pattern library – updating with new content, assets, etc
  • Research interaction and technology trends
  • Code bespoke responsive web pages
  • Live text for SEO
  • Build an online gift guide

What will I need to know and what will I bring?

  • Proven track record in email development and HTML5 display ads
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML5 / CSS3 / Javascript
  • Strong understanding of common software development practices
  • Strong understanding of Email platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong visual communication ability including drawing skills
  • SEO experience and knowledge

  • Conversion rate optimisation and/or A/B testing knowledge
  • Passion for emerging technologies
  • Experience of working in an Agile development environment
